Plea agreement reduces charge to misdemeanor for Tapia

Tapia
A March plea hearing has been scheduled for Marco Antonio Tapia.
Tapia, 27, of Marshalltown, will submit a written plea of guilty to assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, an aggravated misdemeanor. He was originally charged with third-degree sexual abuse, a class C felony which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of $13,660.
Tapia was arrested in April after a sexual abuse case was reported to the Marshalltown Police Department in August 2023 involving an adult victim.
Under the plea agreement and in response to a guilty plea, the state will recommend Tapia get included in the Iowa sex registry, get credit for time served and receive two years of supervised probation. The no-contact order will also be extended to five years.
