Fatal accident victim identified as Fairbank man
The victim of a fatal accident at the intersection of Highways 30 and 330 west of Marshalltown on Tuesday afternoon has been identified as 69-year-old Richard James Wenger of Fairbank.
According to a press release from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived on the scene of the crash within minutes of receiving a 911 call and found that a tractor trailer and the agricultural equipment hauled on the semi trailer had become dislodged during the collision, blocking the eastbound lanes of Highway 30 underneath the bridges for Highway 330 lanes.
The semi tractor was on fire when deputies arrived. Bystanders and deputies used multiple fire extinguishers to help suppress the fire until Fire Department personnel arrived on scene to extinguish the fire and extricate the patient, but Wenger died at the scene.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
