State Center man dies after being recovered from Green Castle Lake

FERGUSON — A State Center man was pronounced dead at the UnityPoint Health hospital in Marshalltown after he was recovered from the Green Castle Lake near Ferguson on Friday evening.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., deputies were dispatched to locate an overdue fisherman, 64-year-old Timothy Eggers of State Center, according to a press release from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).

When they arrived on the scene, an unresponsive male who they later identified as Eggers was located partially submerged in an open water area of the lake. The Marshalltown Fire Department (MFD) began a cold water rescue, and the fisherman was transferred to the shoreline, where emergency medical personnel began administering first aid.

The UPH ambulance service transported Eggers to the hospital in Marshalltown, where he was later pronounced deceased. The death remains under investigation, but initial findings indicate that ice conditions on the lake were a contributing factor to Eggers’s death.

The MCSO was assisted by the MFD, the UPH-Marshalltown ambulance service, Marshall County Conservation, the Gilman Fire Department, Gilman First Responders and the Marshall County Medical Examiner’s Office.
