Melbourne man convicted of sexual abuse gets 30-year prison sentence

A Melbourne man who was convicted of felony sexual abuse and enticing a minor after a jury trial in February has been sentenced to serve a total of 30 years in prison.

According to court records, Josiah D. Benbow, 28, was sentenced by Judge Ashley Sparks during a hearing in Marshall County District Court on Monday. For the second degree sexual abuse charge, he will be required to serve 25 years, along with five years for enticing a minor.

Benbow will be required to serve at least 70 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for work release or parole. He is also being fined $1,025 as part of the conviction on the second count and will be required to pay victim restitution in an amount to be determined later.

He will also be required to undergo sex offender treatment and comply with sex offender registry requirements for the rest of his life.
