STATE CENTER — When Traci Weuve opened her own flower business called Mimi’s Blooms and More, it was truly a dream come true. The Grand Opening was on Feb. 10, which was good timing with Valentine’s Day shortly after. Traci has been busy ever since.
“I grew up in a flower shop,” she said. “My mom was in the flower business, and although I really wanted to take it over when she decided to close her doors, I just couldn’t since my two girls were very young. It would have been a great opportunity for me at that time, but I had to put my girls first.”
Since Weuve grew up with a mother who taught her all about flowers, it comes naturally for her to design flower arrangements.
“It is a benefit to have some experience from my mom, to design a work of art with flowers. I am thrilled my three granddaughters, Tatum (14), Stella (10), and Evie (7) have enjoyed getting into the creativity of making arrangements, too. Who knows, maybe one day they will take over for Grandma Mimi,” she said.
On the other hand, her three grandsons, Axel (7), George (5), and Henry (3), would rather do something with their Grandpa Tom.
Although Weuve’s main focus is flowers, she also knows a thing or two about coffee, so it is offered “on the side” while a person is checking out her plants, candles made locally, locally made metal art — and even silk flowers that can be purchased for certain orders.
“If you are looking for something special for a loved one, I will do my best to produce the perfect arrangement just as you envisioned it,” she said.
Weuve has fresh flowers for births, birthdays, anniversaries, proms, weddings, and funerals. If there is another specific occasion to celebrate, she said she will brainstorm some ideas.
“If you have a vision, I have lots of them; just let me know,” she said.
As for her husband Tom’s opinion of her taking over their garage and having the business there. Traci responded “I think he likes it because he knows it makes me happy.”
She is making many other customers happy, too.
Mimi’s Blooms and More is located at 206 2nd St. NW in State Center. The hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and then 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays.
