Patrick Paul Michael Laverty, 43

Patrick’s family mourns his unexpected passing on Thursday, October 21st, 2021, while in Nebraska. Funeral service will take place at Graceland Cemetery, Laurel, IA, at 2:00pm on Tuesday, November 30 with Reeba Bloom officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Hawkeye Wrestling Club at donorbox.org/hawkeye-one-time.

Born April 6, 1978, in Marshalltown he was the son of Judy Bloom and Alan Laverty and spent his first years on the family farm in Laurel. He later moved to Chicago and graduated from Libertyville High School, IL in 1995 where he lettered in wrestling. He went on to college at the University of Iowa where he graduated in December 2000 with a BA in Political Science. He was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, and spent a semester in London and Edinburgh studying International Law, Comparative Politics and how to party in France and Germany.

Memories shared by his friends described him as: “an incredible soul who had the ability to make people cry with laughter with his one liners.” “He had a love for the Chicago Cubs, the CyHawk rivalry, and talking politics.” “He had the best smile & laugh! Life of the party, loyal to his Hawkeyes, family, friends, & ranch, of course!” “The dude was a legend; he had the absolute best giggle and the best text exchanges there will ever be.”

Patrick was preceded in death by his father, Alan Laverty in 2016, grandfather John Bloom in March 2021 and sister Margaret Laverty in August 2021.

Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Judy Bloom, step-father Brian Dodds, wife Abbe Laverty and children Kaylie, McKenna, Connor and Jack, step-brothers Michael (Patty) Dodds and Russell (Renee) Dodds and their children Rebecca and Matthew as well as the extended Bloom and Laverty families.

May his memory be for a blessing.
