Per the wishes of John and his family, cremation rites have been accorded under the care of the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A family-led celebration of life will take place on Saturday, December 11 beginning at 4:00 P.M. at the “Old Grocery Store” in Garwin. Born John Douglas Bryant on June 1, 1947, in Marshalltown, Iowa, he was the son of John “J.D.” and Maxine (Mooney) Bryant. Growing up, he enjoyed running and was on a state championship team for the 4×4 relay. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1965 and furthered his education at Marshalltown Community College and Iowa State.

John was united in marriage to Betty (Sloat) Jensen in Las Vegas on December 29, 1978. He drove over one-million miles as a self-employed trucker in his lifetime. However, no matter where John had to travel for the week, he always made it home to watch his kids’ and grandkids’ ball games. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family. John was also an avid Iowa State fan, attending many football and basketball games over the years.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 44 years, Betty; his children: Stephanie (Matt) Deschamp, Nicole Bryant and Michael Bryant; grandchildren: Mattison Vaske, McKensie Vaske, Matthew Deschamp, Avery Bryant, MaKayla Pendelton and Madden Pendelton; his brother, Terry Bryant and several other relatives and friends.

In death, he is reunited with his parents, J.D. and Maxine and his favorite aunt and uncle, Ilda and Merle Moser.
