Joan Ann Mohr was born on July 27, 1953, at the Mercy Hospital in Marshalltown to parents John Henry and Maxine Phyllis (Sparks) Mohr. She grew up in the Marshall County area and attended LDF High School where she graduated in the class of 1971. She continued her education receiving her Associates of Arts degree from Marshalltown Community College.
Joan raised her three children, Melanie, Jeremy, and Anna near Conrad and rural Dillon. Her first and main job was caring for her children. Previous to that she worked for the Marshalltown Hospital.
In her free time, Joan enjoyed helping people regardless of their age. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She had a knack for wandering around in nature and taking trips to Ferguson to visit the astronomy tower where she would study the phases of the moon and the stars. She was particularly invested in studying World War II history because her father was a part of the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. She also enjoyed antiquing. Joan was a member of the Ferguson Bible Church.
Those left to remember and cherish her memory are her children: Melanie (Daniel) Bell, Jeremy Ferneau and Anna Ferneau; her grandchildren: Michael Bell, Nathaniel Bell, Elizabeth Bell, Owen Ferneau and Lonica Ferneau; and her siblings: David Mohr, Linda Mohr and Karen (Dave) Eggert. Joan is also survived by her aunts, an uncle and many cousins on the Sparks side of the family and her nieces, nephews and cousins on the Mohr side of her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents John and Maxine Mohr; her son, Andy Ferneau and her siblings Barbara Mohr and Michael Mohr.
