Barbara Jo (Norman) Morgan, 93

Barbara Jo (Norman) Morgan, 93, of Marshalltown, passed away on the evening of Sunday, April 23, 2023, at the Iowa River Hospice Home with her daughters at her side. She made it to heaven in time to celebrate with Tom their 41st wedding anniversary.

Funeral services for Barbara Jo will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Bangor Friends Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 27, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Barbara Jo Norman was born April 18, 1930, at St. Thomas Mercy Hospital in Marshalltown to Clarence C “Joe” and Frances (Green) Norman. She grew up in various Iowa communities and Clemson, South Carolina. In 1947, she graduated from Calhoun-Clemson High School then attended the Women’s College of Furman University (Greenville, SC) and William Penn College (Oskaloosa, IA).

On October 7, 1950, Barbara Jo was united in marriage to Donald Dean Nichols. Three daughters were born to that union. Barbara Jo and Don later divorced. On April 24, 1982, she married Thomas W. Morgan Jr. in a home ceremony at Clemson. They lived in Atlanta, Georgia, until moving to the Embers in Marshalltown in 2006.

Barbara Jo was 12 years old when she gave her life to God. She was a faithful supporter of First Friends Church in Marshalltown, active in USFW (United Society of Friends Women) and participated in several Bible studies. She was a 56-year member of DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) and a 69-year member of OES (Order of Eastern Star). She loved to read and was always interested in learning. She was an avid fan of the Clemson Tigers.

Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters: Diane Roberts, Donna (Dan) Brandt and Darla Nichols; grandchildren: Mark Byers, Julie (Jon) Lee, Amy (Cory) Howell, Nicholas Schinnow and Justin Schinnow; great grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Gunnar, Devon and Lucas; sister, Ann Lee (Charles) Nichols; sister-in-law, Judith Powers and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Tom, her parents, brother, Steven R. Norman and son-in-law, Timothy Roberts.
