Memorial services for Doris will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Doris Hammond was born on November 7, 1929, in New Castle, Nebraska, to James and Opal (Johnson) Hammond. She graduated from Montour High School in 1947. Doris was united in marriage to George Kouba on December 13, 1947, in Marshalltown.

Doris was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 29, 1972. She loved reading and studying her Bible every day.

She had previously worked for Fisher Governor, Kresge and cleaned businesses and homes until she was 80 years old. Doris enjoyed square dancing, roller skating and bowling. She was an excellent cook and baker and will be remembered for her homemade noodles and cinnamon rolls. Doris also was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed going shopping at Goodwill. Doris will especially be remembered for having a good sense of humor, being generous, giving and loving toward every member of her family.

Doris is survived by her children: Kitty Choate, of Le Grand, Patricia Kouba, of Marshalltown, Daniel (Kathy) Kouba, of Melbourne, Sally (Scott) Randall, of Marshalltown, and Jennifer (Emil) Ramirez, of Plano, Texas. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and other extended family members.

Doris is preceded in death by her son: Timothy Kouba; parents: James and Opal Hammond; grandson: Nathan Kouba; great grandchildren: Tanden Williams and Chloey Kline. She is also preceded in death by her siblings: Melba Simmons, Lois Scott and James Hammond and her son-in-law: Jody “Perry” Choate.
