Donald Campbell

Donald Wayne Campbell, 93 of Clermont, Iowa formerly of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away Thursday, August 15, 2024 at his home in Clermont. He was born July 19, 1931 to Charlie and Bernice (Konger) Campbell in Gilman, Iowa. Donald graduated from Gilman High School in 1940. During his summer year in high school, he worked for his father, learning the carpenter trade. Donald then enlisted in the United States Air Force for four years and attended Radar Maintenance school in Biloxi, Missouri. He then was assigned to the 2nd Bomb Wing in Savannah, Georgia. While with the 2nd Bomb Wing, he spent three months each year TDY in England and eight months on Okinawa during the Korean War. During a TDY to England in 1951, Donald met Pamela Mayle, became engaged and married in 1952 in Gilman, Iowa.

Upon Donalds honorable discharge for the Air Force, Donald attended Marshalltown Junior College and the University of Iowa, where he earned his BS in Electrical Engineering. He then went to work for Boeing Airplane Company on the Minute Missile Project in Seattle, Washington. When that design project was completed, he went to work for Philco WDL in Palo, California on the design of Satellite Tracking Stations. Donald then went to work for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and finished his career with Fisher Controls in Marshalltown, retiring in 1993.

Donald along with his wife, Pamela enjoyed camping, square dancing, skiing, playing tennis and traveling. They spent their winters as snowbirds in Harlingen, Texas.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Ian and Paula (Carr) Campbell of Fairfax, Iowa and Angela (Campbell) and David Hoth of Postville, Iowa; three grandchildren: Jashua Hoth of Postville, IA, Devin Hoth of Elgin, Iowa and Shyla Hoth of West Union, Iowa And Great Grandson Jasper Hoth of West Union, Iowa; and his sister, Marlene Anderson of Toledo, Iowa.

Preceding Donald in death were his wife of fifty-nine years, Pamela Campbell; his parents, Charlie and Bernice Campbell; brother, Dr. Robert Campbell of Colorado City, Colorado; and his dear friend, Mary Lou Hobbs.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday September 6, 2024 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Inurnment with Military Rites will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Marshalltown, Iowa.
