Gerald Koscielski

Gerald William Koscielski, 82, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 in Cedar Rapids. A public visitation will take place from 4:30 to 7:30 P.M. on Thursday, November 7 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Jerry was born on April 3, 1942, in Omaha, NE and moved to Marshalltown, IA in 1947. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1960 and was united in marriage to Sonja Wolken on October 26, 1962. Together they had two daughters.

Jerry owned the Greyhound Bus Depot and City Delivery in Marshalltown for many years and was known for being a friend to all that passed through the doors. In his young life Jerry purchased a farm. He loved farming and being a steward to the land throughout his life. He ended his career operating a snow removal business and as a landlord. Jerry enjoyed being a handy man, and one of his proudest accomplishments was building two houses in his lifetime. Jerry always had a story to tell, loved trips to the casino and always lent a hand to those in need.

He is survived by his daughter, Lori (Mick) Vana of Cedar Rapids, IA; his two grandchildren, Morgan and Zach Vana, both of Des Moines, IA; his sister, Judy (Ray) Zwemke of GA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sonja, daughter Joanne and parents William and Doris Koscielski.

Arrangements are being handled by Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Hospice of Mercy in Hiawatha, IA.
