Sandra Engle
Sandra Engle, age 80, of Conrad, Iowa, passed away after a brief illness on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Unity Point Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa with her family at her side.
Services for Sandra will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 beginning at 2:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation. Sandra Russie was born June 12, 1944 in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was the oldest of three daughters born to Robert and Ardys (Bachman) Russie. Sandra grew up in Conrad, Iowa and attended school in the Beaman-Conrad school district and was a graduate of the final class of the combined school in 1962.
On August 24, 1962, she was united in marriage to Ronald Engle at the Conrad United Methodist Church. Together they made their home in Conrad and began a family raising five children, Jone, Joel, Holly, Ryan and Karen. Taking care of her family was her life-long goal. Later on in life she held a couple of part-time jobs to help during the farm crisis. In 2008, Ronald passed away after being married 45 years.
Sandra’s faith was important to her, she was a member of the Liscomb Church of Christ and recently a member of New Hope Christian Church in Marshalltown. Within the Liscomb church, she was a Sunday school teacher and participated in the church choir. She was active as a 4-H leader as her children were growing up and a member of the KIWANIS in Union alongside Ronald. She enjoyed working on sewing and craft projects as a necessity as well as a hobby later in life. Her family remembers many times of her being great in the kitchen cooking meals and baking goods for them. She was an avid animal lover and her greatest joys in life came from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to remember and cherish her memory are her children, Jone Betts, Joel (Tammie) Engle, Holly (Paul) Selken, Ryan (Diane) Engle and Karen (Scott Horn) Bacon; her grandchildren, Kayla, Kelly, Seth, Kari, Kristen, Melanie, William, Evan, Allison, Bryce, Brooke and Katie; great-grandchildren, Isaac, Dylan, Adalynn and Claira; a sister, Barbara (Jim) Poe and her brother-in-law, Mike Bullen and numerous extended family members.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; grandson Ethan; parents, Robert and Ardys; and sister Linda Bullen.
