Andrea Kay Peterson Woehlk, 68, of Dysart, IA, formerly of Marshalltown, IA passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at MercyOne Hospital in Waterloo, IA from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in rural Black Hawk County. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 13, 2024, at Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. Burial will follow memorial services at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Andrea was born November 3, 1956, at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, IA, the daughter of Carl and Noel (Kenneke) Peterson. She received her elementary education at Hanson and Miller Schools and graduated from Marshalltown High School, class of 1975.

Andrea was married to Craig Hornbacher and they welcomed two children, Lisa and Ashley. Later, she married Craig Holub and had two sons, Cade and Cordt.

She studied Applied Art and Design at Iowa State University, then received her B.A. in Art and School Counseling from the University of Northern Iowa. She continued her schooling there obtaining her Master’s in Education in 1995.

During her 40 years in education, she taught Art and Counseling at the children's home in Toledo and for the Belle Plaine School District. She continued teaching at the East Marshall and North Tama school districts in the special education programs. She retired from full time teaching in 2020 but remained an educator serving as a reliable substitute teacher.

Andrea was a lover of beauty. A talented painter and illustrator, she delighted in producing for friends and loved ones personalized drawings of their homes, barns and gardens. She enjoyed photography, especially of the Iowa countryside. She loved to cook for her family, baking cookies with her grandchildren and hosting dinners, birthdays and holidays with her special warmth and inclusiveness. She enjoyed traveling with Ken to both local festivals and around the US.

She was a lifelong educator and she was dedicated to her work in special education, championing underserved children by always finding ways to treat each of her students with dignity and respect.

Most of all, Andrea was a selfless and compassionate mother, sister, daughter, grandmother, and friend. She had a kind smile and a thoughtful comment for all those she met. She adored her children and grandchildren and set a loving and caring example that will never be forgotten.

Andrea is survived by her mother, Noel Lund of Marshalltown, her step mother, LaDean Peterson of Arden, NC, her partner, Ken Wagenhofer of Dysart, her children; Lisa (Ben) Cory or Cedar Falls, IA, Ashley (Alex) Levy of Larchmont, NY, Cade (Kelly) Holub of Buckingham, IA, and Cordt (Krista) Holub of Dysart, five grandchildren; Annabelle Cory, Ava and Audrey Levy, Kayce Holub and her expected brother in March, and Carver Holub, her brothers; John (Deb) Peterson of Marshalltown, Tom (Angel) Peterson of San Diego, CA, Steve (Shari) Peterson of Charlotte, NC, Bill (Sarah) Peterson of Davenport, IA, and Dan (Amy) Peterson of Ames, IA, her step siblings; Paul (Harriet) Lund of Lakeville, MN, John (Deb) Lund of Forest City, IA, and Karen (Dan) Gerdes of Lee’s Summitt, MO, numerous nieces and nephews, her beloved lifelong fury companions; a black lab, Bella and a cat, Charlie, and her class of ’75 classmates who continued to meet monthly. Andrea was preceded in death by her father, Carl Peterson, step-father Dr. Axel “Ted” Lund and a nephew, Ryan Gerdes.
