Berniece Mary was born February 11, 1939, in Goodell, IA to Grandfield Lawrence and Bridget (Nolan) Smith. She was raised on the family farm in the Wesley, IA area until her father’s passing in 1956. Berniece, her mom, and brothers moved to Algona, IA and she graduated from St. Cecilia Academy in 1957. On November 25, 1961, Berniece was united in marriage to Henry C. Seiler.

She worked at a local butcher shop before becoming a homemaker, raising their four children and babysitting. In 1982, Berniece began working at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown. She worked as the dietary supervisor until retirement in 2005. She received the Governor’s Golden Dome Employee of the Year award in 2004 for her service to the residents and staff of the Iowa Veteran’s Home. She stayed busy in the community, including starting the Marshalltown Wrestling Club.

Berniece was very passionate about her family, especially her grandchildren. Every summer she hosted “grandma camp”, which included one week with all her grandchildren doing various activities and a lot of treats. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, and loved her flowers.

Berniece will be missed by her children; Sherri (Shannon) Logan of Marshalltown, Henry J. (Deanna) Seiler of Marshalltown, Vicki Anderson of Conrad, IA, Cindi (David) Morgan of Union, IA, nine grandchildren; Jordan, Casey, Meagan, Kristine, Claire, Colin, Emily, Elizabeth and Quinn, two step grandchildren, Ty and Bailey, 13 great grandchildren; Izabell, Lilly, Lyla, Calvin, Charles, Violet, Alexander, Saint, Leon, Cruz, Caroline, Lucas, Archibald and two on the way, three step great grandchildren, Theodore, Peyton and Jett, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry “Hank” Seiler, her parents, her son-in-law, Ron Anderson, a grandson, Jacob Schossow, her siblings; Noreen Kelly, Barb Detrick, Helen Sullivan, Chuck Smith, Joe Smith and Steve Smith, and her in-laws, Julius and Catherine (Downs) Seiler.
