Lauralea “Laurie” Beth (Gunderson) (Dunn) Schrock, 80, of Lenexa, Kansas and formerly State Center, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024 at Homestead of Lenexa.
A memorial service for Laurie will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Lauralea “Laurie” Beth (Gunderson) (Dunn) Schrock was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on December 11, 1944, to Sarah Emmagene (Barnhart) Davenport Gunderson and Leo Davenport. She was later adopted by her eventual stepfather Gordon Gunderson, who was her father as she grew up. She attended Des Moines Technical High School and went on to study lab and x-ray in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She worked as a lab technician in Des Moines for several years after graduation. She married Francis Dunn on August 10, 1968, and they farmed together on the family farm north of Clemons, Iowa. They had five children together. After thirteen years of marriage, Francis died in a farming accident. Laurie later moved to State Center, Iowa. She met Allan Schrock, who had been widowed and had a grown daughter. They had one child together. Laurie found great joy in family. She had a strong personal faith in God. She was active in several organizations at different times in her life and found a lot of joy in the church and music. Laurie lived her final years in Lenexa, Kansas, and died of breast cancer. She is at peace.
Preceding Laurie in death are her parents: Leo Davenport, Emmagene and Gordon Gunderson, brother David Davenport, stepdaughter Cynthia (Michael) Schrock Westphal, and husbands Francis Dunn and Allan Schrock. Surviving Laurie are sister Lillian Davenport and children Paul (Katie) Dunn, Mark (Annette) Dunn, Amy (Christopher) Gralapp, Sarah (Ryan) Mueller, Emily (Cory) Damon, Rachel Schrock, and son-in-law Michael Westphal. Also surviving are grandchildren Benjamin (Jennifer) Westphal, Zachary Westphal, Ryan Still, Caitlyn (Ben) Still Ackerman, Aurora Dunn (Robert Fouts), Colby (Makayla) Dunn, Garrett (Kirsten) Dunn, Olivia Gralapp, Jonah Gralapp, Keeley Gralapp, Alicia Mueller, Cy Mueller, Adelyn Damon, and Connor Damon and great grandchildren Steele, Rosalie, and Barrett Ackerman, Declan Dunn, and Lilly Dunn.
