Raymond Niner

Raymond L. “Leo” Niner, 91, of Davenport formerly of Haverhill, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport. Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Funeral service: 11 a.m., Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn with Rev. John Dodds officiating. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Cemetery.
Leo is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Betty; his children, Clarence “Barney” (Laura) Niner, Mary (Gary) Niner-Graves, Beth (Lynn) Maas, Kathy Roughton (Dennis Martin) and Nathan Niner; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving Leo is a sister Dorothy “Dot” Loughry and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Danielle Graves, grandson Andrew Graves, three sisters Billie Kriegel, Katy Kriegel and Ruthie Dunn; and one brother Charles Niner.
Raymond Leo Niner was born January 5, 1933, the son of Raymond Chester and Marie Schaffer Niner. He received his education in the Brooklyn Schools. After school, Leo began helping farm for Ray and Irene Beran. He was united in marriage to Betty Rhinehart on August 29, 1953, in Minnesota. The couple settled just outside of Brooklyn where Leo continued farming for most of his career. He worked for the Goodman family in Haverhill, for 45 years. After retirement, Leo and Betty moved to Davenport. Leo loved to garden. He also was a part of a card club playing 500, Euchre and Phase 10. He enjoyed morel mushroom and asparagus hunting, and watching western movies especially ones with John Wayne.
