Betty Hartwig
Betty Olive Hartwig, 86, of Colo, Iowa was called home by God on Wednesday, January 7, 2025 with her son by her side at her home.
Betty was born May 19, 1938 in Marshall County, Iowa to parents George and Ida (Selvig) Usken. She graduated from State Center High School. On December 15, 1957, she married her high school sweetheart, James Hartwig. They raised two boys on the family farm in rural Colo where she was very involved in the Dairy operation.
Betty was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center. She was a hard worker in a small package and was always willing to help anyone whenever called. Betty was known for her potato salad that she made for the Church whenever they called. She enjoyed cooking, watching the musical programs and ISU basketball on TV. Betty’s greatest joy was raising her two sons.
Left to cherish her memory are her son Douglas Hartwig of State Center, her brother Gary (Laurie) Usken of Ft. Collins, Colorado, her sister Roxanne (Norman) Young of Hayfield, MN, a niece and nephews, and many friends. Betty is preceded in death by her parents George and Ida Usken, her husband James Hartwig, her son Craig Hartwig, her brother Berlyn Usken and in-laws Arnold and Marguerite Hartwig.
Services for Betty will include visitation on Sunday, January 12 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 605 1st Ave N, State Center, IA 50247. Funeral Services will take place on Monday, January 13 at 10:30 A.M. also at the church. She will be laid to rest following the service at Hillside Cemetery in State Center. Memorials in Betty’s honor may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, State Center. Mitchell Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of Betty and her family.
