Charles Goodman

Charles Patrick Goodman (Pat), 70, of Clive, Iowa, passed away on January 1, 2025. Born in Marshalltown, Iowa, on July 6, 1954, to Earl and Arvella (Burke) Goodman, he grew up on the family farm in Rhodes, where he developed a deep love for agriculture and hard work.

Pat is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Ann (Penningroth) Goodman, originally from Tipton; his daughters, Meg (Daniel) Hewes, of Ramstein, Germany, and Rose (Scott) Klingbeil, of Des Moines; his cherished grandchildren: Logan, Luke, Jack and Maggie; his sister Earlene Houlihan; his brother Roger (Ginny) Goodman; and his mother-in-law Rosemary Penningroth. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Arvella Goodman, his brother-in-law Robert Houlihan and his father-in-law Raymond Penningroth.

A graduate of West Marshall High School (Class of 1972) and Iowa State University (Class of 1976), Pat earned a degree in Animal Science. After seven years of farming the family land, he transitioned to the meat industry, with a career that took him to Illinois, Nebraska, Kansas and Iowa. He retired as a supervisor of meat grading for the United States Department of Agriculture, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and excellence.

Beneath his sometimes gruff exterior was a deeply loving and devoted man whose loyalty, care and generosity touched everyone who knew him. Pat was a lifelong Kansas City Chiefs and Iowa State Cyclone fan, an avid traveler, a backyard chef, master gardener and a proud dog owner of his beloved K.C. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father and papa, always putting family first.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ISU Foundation (Meat Science Judging) or the University of Iowa Holden Cancer Center in his honor.
