Patricia Peters Rinz

Patricia (Patsy) Pauline Peters Rinz, 89 of Gladbrook passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on the morning of January 6, 2025, at New Aldaya, Cedar Falls Iowa.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Traer United Methodist Church on January 27, 2025, beginning at 10:30 AM followed by a luncheon. A visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the start of services.

I lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation.

Patsy was born August 6, 1935, in Spring Creek Township, Tama County, Iowa. She was one of two children born to Henry and Irene (Gethmann) Junge. Patsy attended school in Gladbrook, where she graduated in 1953. She attended Cornell college for one year and then transferred and graduated from Iowa State Teachers College with a teaching certificate in 1955.

On August 7, 1955, she was united in marriage to Donald Peters, they were later divorced. On January 26, 1985, she was untied in marriage to Arthur Rinz.

Patsy lived many years in Reinbeck, Iowa where she raised her family and worked many jobs. She was a substitute teacher, librarian, nursing home cook, and Medical Receptionist for Dr. Verduyn.

Patsy was very active in her community and had a deep passion for supporting others. She was a member of the Gladbrook United Methodist Church, where she organized overseas mission projects and made hundreds of layettes and diapers, was a Sunday School teacher, and a “Kids Club” volunteer. She was chairman of the Northwest Tama County Food Pantry for over 30 years where she devoted countless hours of her time. She also volunteered with Project Warmth, Angel Tree and the Gladbrook Women’s Club. She was a Girl and Boy Scout Leader, organized a migrant worker Head Start Program, and a volunteer with Hospice and Matchstick Marvels. She sewed quilts and lap robes for nursing homes and domestic abuse shelters. Pasty was selfless in her endeavors to support her community, her church, her family, and anyone else in need.

Patsy enjoyed traveling, sewing, quilting, reading, antiques, gardening and anything to do with socializing and being active. She and her friend Ron Schmidt enjoyed going out to eat at local restaurants and legions and attending numerous Gladbrook Reinbeck sporting events together.

Survivors include her children Ronald (Tena) Peters of Cedar Falls IA, Cindi (Jeff) Hodgin of Hudson Iowa, Gordon Peters of Traer IA, Kenneth Peters of Lincoln IA, Cathy (Gary) Gauthier of Argyle ME, Jason (Deb) Rinz Paris MO, seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Rinz, her brother Henry (Hank) H. Junge Jr, and her parents Henry and Irene Junge.
