Sue was the daughter of James and Evelyn Scott. In 1961 she graduated from Gladbrook Community High School then attended Pitzi’s School of Beauty in Waterloo. She was united in marriage to Duane Hamann in October 1963 and they lived in rural Gladbrook all their married lives. Sue moved from the farm to Gladbrook after Duane’s passing.

Sue enjoyed a long career in the hair salon. She performed countless hours on shampoo/sets, haircuts, perms, and styling hair. For years, the majority of Sue’s customers had standing weekly appointments. Her customers were of all ages, some spanning several generations in the same family. Her daughter, Pam Fogt, even choose the same career and worked in Waterloo until she passed away in 2022. Sue’s oldest daughter, Angie Knaack, choose a career in the health field and is currently practicing as a nurse.

Sue was an avid seamstress. She made several prom dresses over the years for her daughters and even made their wedding gowns. She made baptism dresses for her children and grandchildren plus numerous holiday outfits, pajamas, coats, and a variety of costumes for Halloween and parades.

Sue is survived by her daughter Angela (Mark) Knaack of Gladbrook. Her grandchildren Zach (Rachel) Knaack, Gladbrook; Katie (Andrew) Raska, Newton; Lexee Fogt, Wellsburg; and Carter Fogt, Gladbrook. Great-grandchildren Kinley and Madison Keys, Mason Raska, Laramie and Denali Knaack. Nephew Andrew (Sarah) Scott, Cedar Falls. Sisters Deb Harre and Trudi both of Gladbrook and brother Royce Fink.

Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and Andrew, loved their “Grandma Sue” just as much as she loved them. Sue followed them in all their sports, school activities, 4-H, and Scouts. They brought her so much joy and happiness no matter how old they were.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents; husband Duane; infant son Duane Allen, Jr; daughter Pam Fogt; and brother Terry.
