Charles (Chuck) Leslie Hannahs was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania on December 19, 1937, son of Harry and Muriel (Wixon) Hannahs. He grew up in Cyclone where he attended school there as well as Bradford. In 1954, his family moved to Marshalltown. Chuck graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1956. Chuck met the love of his life, Lyona Jaspers, at a church youth activity. They were married in 1958 in Marshalltown. The Lord blessed them with five children.
Chuck worked for Marshall Print becoming a Journeyman Offset Pressman. Staying with the business he went into ink sales to printshops, newspapers and clients around Iowa. In his 40’s, Chuck changed careers and became a Securities Representative enjoying the privilege of helping many save money and prepare for their retirements.
Chuck was full of life and lived life to the fullest. He made life fun. He and Lyona traveled often to Texas for the winter, then Arizona. Deciding he needed a little more to do at the age of 77, he became a part-time rural postal deliverer through age 84. His old 1994 mail carrier jeep had to be resurrected several times by a grandson-in-law. Chuck was always committed completely to whatever job, project, sport, games that he was called upon to do.
Charles was dedicated to his Lord and Savior and faithfully involved in his local church. There was never a day he was not in his Bible, walking with our Savior, and praying for family and church family needs and friends.
Chuck was a caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather – he would set everything aside for his grandkids and great grands.
Chuck enjoyed sports and was very athletic when young, but golf became a favorite endeavor and gave him great memories and happiness.
Chuck's pulmonary fibrosis abruptly altered his healthy, active lifestyle, but as he had done throughout his life, he taught his family not only how to live but how to die with faith and grace.
Charles will be missed by his wife Lyona, children: Edwin (Laurie) Hannahs, Marshalltown; Neil (Marilee) Hannahs, Aberdeen, South Dakota; CyndiLu (Bob) Marshall, St. John, Indiana; Lanette (Andrew) O’Neal, Joliet, Illinois; Joel Hannahs, Arlington, Virginia; nineteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren with three on the way; his sister Alice Hamley and brother David Hannahs.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother, and grandparents. His grandfather A.B. Wixon had a great influence on his life.
