Mark Kevin Osmundson, age 73, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away peacefully at the Iowa River Hospice Home on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
Born April 14, 1951, in Lacrosse, WI, Mark was the son of Dean and Audrey (Claassen) Osmundson. After his family relocated to Memphis, TN, he graduated from Overton High School in 1969 and obtained a business degree from the University of Memphis in 1973.
On November 29, 1975, Mark married Emily Campbell in Memphis. The two moved to Marshalltown in 1978 to start MTN Broadcasting (KDAO), thus continuing his family’s broadcasting legacy another generation.
Mark was an eternal optimist – his glass wasn’t just half-full, it was overflowing. He loved his family, his broadcasting career, and giving back to his community.
He was an engaged member and leader of several community organizations, committees, and industry groups such as Rotary International, Iowa Broadcasters Association, Marshalltown Chamber of Commerce, Marshall County Crime Stoppers, United Way, and International Broadcasters Idea Bank.
His generous service earned him several awards including Iowa Broadcaster of the Year, Marshalltown’s Volunteer of the Year, and Rotary’s Kenneth Brintnall Award.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Dean, in January of 2014. He leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Emily; his two children: Eric Osmundson (Amanda Morrow) of Cedar Rapids, and Allison Osmundson of Marshalltown; his mother Audrey Osmundson of Mesa, AZ; sister Jean (Doug) Rother of Golden, CO; niece Jessica (Jesse) Reeves of Broomfield, CO; and nephew Nick Rother of Golden, CO.
In honor of Mark’s lifelong dedication to Marshalltown, his family is establishing a memorial fund to support community improvements that give back to the town he loved so dearly. In lieu of flowers, please direct your contributions to the family so they can continue his legacy of generosity and civic pride.
Per the wishes of Mark and his family, cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services will take place on Monday, February 10 at 2:00 P.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Gregg Davidson officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior beginning at 1:00 P.M.
