Ted Levere Smith was born on November 5, 1939 in Marshalltown. He was the son of Ray and Ruth (Burgess) Buchanan. Ted served his country honorable in the United States Navy from 1959 until 1962. On July 21, 1962, Ted was united in marriage to Judy Fehrmann in Marshalltown. Ted had previously been a farmer and had worked at Kiowa as a machinist and in management. Ted was a member of the Hardin County Cruisers, NRA and the Marshalltown Gun Club. He enjoyed going to car and tractor shows, playing cards and in his earlier years, enjoyed hunting, fishing and competitive shooting.

Ted is survived by his children: Debbie (John Reardon) Groves of Ankeny, Mary (Phil) Anderson of Marshalltown, Ted (Yolanda) Smith Jr. of Marshalltown and Jason Smith of Marshalltown. Grandchildren: Alicia (Adam), Sarah (Steve), Kelsea, Tyler (Skylar), Brittany, Seth and Owen. Ted is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Paetyn and Emery.

Ted is preceded in death by his wife, Judy, parents, and his brother: Aaron Smith.
