Rudy Frye

Rudy Frye, age 92, of Marshalltown passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the Iowa Veterans Home surrounded by his loving family while under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. March 25, 2025, at St. Francis of Assisi – St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2025, with a 7:00 p.m. vigil and rosary service held at Anderson Funeral Home in Marshalltown, casual dress with your favorite sports team attire encouraged. Entombment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Memorial donations in honor of Rudy may be directed to the family to be donated to charities of his choice. Rudy was born December 1, 1932, in Marshalltown, IA the son of Everett and Sophie (Loney) Frye. He attended school in Green Mountain, helped on the family farm then enlisted into the Navy in 1952 to serve during the Korean War. Upon Rudy’s return from Naval Basic Training in San Diego California he united in marriage to Angela Goodman on August 31, 1953. After his Honorable Discharge from the US Navy in 1956 they settled in Marshalltown. Rudy delivered milk for Mead’s dairy until 1967. Rudy accepted a management position for the Des Moines Register he and Angela managed in 2 different locations first in Muscatine then moving to Dubuque Iowa. In 1971 he moved the family back to Marshalltown, Iowa after purchasing a cleaning franchise, Captain Clean. Rudy and Angela ran the business for 26 years before retiring in 1997.
Rudy was a devoted husband, father, and friend to all. He loved spending time with his family, they were always his top priority. He enjoyed dancing, family holidays, camping at the lake, pontoon rides, winters in Florida, walking along the beach and dining out.
He was a member of Saint Henry’s Church, The American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus. He was a volunteer at the Iowa Veterans Home for 4 years and he truly enjoyed escorting residents to church services and other activities.
Rudy was well known for hosting fabulous parties, the legendary New Year’s Eve parties that started in the basement of their home got so large they had to move it to the Knights of Columbus. Anyone that attended surely has a story to tell!!!
Rudy will be dearly missed by his children, Michael (Sue) Frye, Cynthia (Kelly) Smith, Denise (Larry) Ulery, Steve Frye (Mariann Darter), Todd (Peggy) Frye, Doreen (Darren) Smith, 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He joins in eternal life, his wife Angela, his parents, his brother and sister and a grandson.
