Dr. Ross Iverson

Dr. Ross L. Iverson, Ed.D., passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at his home and under the care of Iowa River Hospice and his wife. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Ross Iverson was born on November 9,1943 in Ames, Iowa, to Lester J. and Vera Anna Elizabeth (Akers) Iverson.
Ross taught seventh grade science in the Marshalltown Community School District from 1965-1999, except for one year of residency at the University of Montana to complete his doctoral degree and one year at the Escuela Americana in Tegucigalpa, Honduras as a practicum in international education. His goal in his professional life was to be the best teacher he could be for seventh graders because he had a bad experience in seventh grade. He was a coach for students participating in science fairs. Ross was also the Science Curriculum Director for several years. Over the years he received many recognitions and awards including an ISEA Fellowship Award, the Jaycee Outstanding Young Educator Award, Science Teacher of Iowa, and the Presidential Award for Excellent in Science Teaching. He was active and held
leadership roles in numerous national and state organizations focusing on science and the environment, including the Marshall County Conservation Board.
In 1966, he was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Wright in Moville, Iowa. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, his sons, Brett (Makyla) and Cort (Rachel) Iverson. His life was blessed with five grandchildren: Dayne (Kaitlyn), Sianna, Freya, Rowan, Rosalie and her partner Mia. He was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Vera along with his sister, Cleta, her husband John, and his brother Boyd and his wife Merry.
