Born in Chicago, IL, Wally was a graduate of Dana College in Blair, NE. He was a Captain in the USA Air Force and served in Korea during the Vietnam war as radar air traffic controller. For the majority of his life, he worked for McGregors Furniture Company as the Buyer of furniture, carpet and accessories for the multiple stores across Iowa. He served his community as the chairman of the board of Marietta township, President of the Iowa Floor Club, President of Marshalltown Rental Property Association, Vice President of the Marshalltown Central Business District. He also served on the Republican Central Committee in Marshalltown and held many different offices at the First Congregational Church. He was a member of the Rotary Club for 50 plus years and was a member of the Paul Harris Society. As a second career, Ann and Wally purchased and ran Bayhill Yunker Resort in Lake of the Ozarks, MO. Wally was known for his creative solutions and the ability to fix anything. He once read a sign “Work is for people who don’t fish” and he said he was working very hard on learning to fish in his retirement years. He loved the lake, boating and fishing and shared this joy with his family. He was very dedicated to his family and spent the last four years of his life in West Des Moines near his youngest daughter and her family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ann; their married children, Walt (Heather) Junker; Melinda (Brian) Hooper; Melanie (Roger) Roe and grandchildren, Wesley and Anika Junker, Maddy and Carly Roe.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on May 12th at 11:00 at Hope Lutheran Church, 925 Jordan Creek Pkwy, West Des Moines, IA 50266 lunch to follow.
