The Y’s new year goals
While many individuals are working on their new year’s resolutions, the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA as an organization is also setting its goals for this year. The Y’s long-range strategic plan, created by our board of directors and led by our staff, provides a guide for how we will continue to fulfill our charitable mission in 2025 and beyond.
The YMCA in Marshalltown was started in 1876, as a place to bring people together and serve the needs of the community. We have stayed true to our roots for almost 150 years, and today we continue to provide services and programs that promote healthy living, youth development and social responsibility.
To honor our legacy and continue building toward the future, our strategic plan serves as the guide for our decision-making. Our strategies follow four primary goals to help us achieve success in outreach, program, membership and finance.
Our goal with outreach is to provide a home and a hub, maximizing partnerships and offering opportunities that embrace the richness of our diverse community. Everything at the Y is grounded in meeting the unique needs of communities –and we can’t do it alone. We collaborate with many other organizations doing good work in our area to ensure people of all ages and all backgrounds reach their full potential and thrive.
With membership we strive to ensure an inclusive community where all people can grow and thrive. Through our generous donors, we’re able to use our financial assistance program to make the Y accessible to individuals and families, at all income levels, who need it most. Our Y membership is a reflection of the community we serve; made up of people of all ages, from all walks of life.
Programs are at the heart of what the Y does for the community. Our strategic goal in this area is to provide innovative programs and services that build community and produce life-enhancing results. Participation in Y programs fosters a sense of community and belonging, encouraging individuals to connect, support each other, and build lasting relationships. Furthermore, Y programs such as swim safety and child care address critical societal needs.
Finally, we strive to maximize finances to support world class programming and facilities. The Y is a nonprofit organization that relies on a variety of sources for funding, which include membership dues, program fees, donations and grants. When we maintain our financial stability, we are able to offer high-quality programs and services, invest in our staff and facilities, and weather economic challenges.
The future is bright for the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA and the community we serve. Our longevity as an organization is a testament to the power of strong volunteer and staff leadership and a steadfast commitment to community service. As we look ahead, we are poised to expand our reach and deepen our impact, creating a positive and lasting legacy for generations to come.
