A great start for your child: Marshalltown Community School District preschool

If you’re looking for a high-quality preschool experience for your child, the Marshalltown Community School District (MCSD) has excellent options to consider. With preschool classrooms in all six elementary schools, MCSD is committed to providing young learners with a strong foundation for their educational journey.

Children who turn four years old by September 15 can enroll in MCSD’s free preschool program. Additionally, children who are three years old and have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) are also eligible to attend. These half-day classes, held five days a week, are designed to create a structured and engaging learning environment.

MCSD understands that every family has unique needs, which is why we also partner with Bobcat Academy, St. Francis, and the YMCA/YWCA to offer additional preschool choices through the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program. These partnerships allow parents to select the program that best fits their child’s learning style and needs.

Each MCSD preschool classroom follows the Frog Street Curriculum, a research-based program that supports the whole child. Through this curriculum, children explore nine engaging themes that include music and movement, early literacy, math skills, hands-on learning centers, and social-emotional development. Our dedicated teachers have undergone specialized training to make learning fun and effective for every child.

Parents can also feel reassured knowing that their child will receive a free breakfast or lunch each day. There are no registration fees or tuition costs, ensuring that high-quality early education remains accessible to all families. For those who qualify, busing may be available, making it even easier to participate in our preschool programs.

Enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year is now open! If you’re interested in learning more about MCSD’s preschool options, I’d love to help. Feel free to reach out to me, Emily Banks, at (641) 754-1000 or via email at ebanks@marshalltown.ia.us. We are excited to welcome your child into a learning environment where they will grow, explore, and prepare for a bright future!
