In June Gov Reynolds and Senator Edler clapped a door shut on the auditor and even the courts when House File 478 was passed and signed. Now the auditor cannot audit the taxpayer’s money. The job of the Iowa Auditor is set forth in the Iowa Constitution, yet all but 6 Republicans voted to prevent the auditor from doing what is set forth for him in the Iowa Constitution …prevent fraud and abuse.

In 2020 Auditor Rod Sand (Democrat) found that Gov Reynolds (Republican) misspent $21 million from the CARES Act. He also alleged that Reynold’s broke the law against self-promotion in a tax-funded video and in 2021 said Reynold’s improperly used nearly $450,000 in federal covid funds to pay salaries for 21 staff members. I’m sure this was annoying, but that’s his job.

House File 478 is unconstitutional and politically motivated. If the Governor is not doing anything wrong, she shouldn’t be worried about someone taking a look.
