Know the role when you run for office

Iowa Code is codified by the Iowa Legislature and signed into law by the seated Governor. Following the code is key and that includes the duties prescribed in Section 331.301 that governs County Supervisors. As a County Treasurer I am governed under 331.551.

It is critical to understand that EVERY elected official manages their own staff and maintains their office independently. If I have a clerk resign, retire or is terminated, my Supervisors are only there to acknowledge and approve the change of status. If my Sheriff has a change in personnel the same applies. The Supervisors, by code, shall approve the changes of status. Lisa Lawler believes changes in staff in every department is the result of the County Supervisor’s decisions, that’s inaccurate. Managerial oversight is the responsibility of the elected official of their respective department.

I’ve read Lisa Lawler’s plans online before she “blocked” me along with many others from reading or commenting on her policy proposals. Seems interesting for someone who preaches “transparency” and protecting one’s rights. This must not apply to my rights under the 1st Amendment.

I can’t believe the rhetoric exposed by the Iowa Standard on July 14 where Lisa Lawler as the administrator of the Hardin County Democratic Party Facebook page was written about. The Hardin County Iowa Democrats page on Facebook has routinely posted comparisons between President Trump and Hitler. Warning: Don’t comment against Lisa’s view, or you’ll be blocked.

Finally, a few of the most comical things: I read she’s proposing expanding the board to five supervisors but not expanding the budget. Lisa’s a cost expert for big pharma, it has to be Bidenomics in order to add two positions without increased costs. If she’s worried about representation, maybe the Democrats can get someone north of Highway 20 to run. She’s not helping herself as she lives in New Providence, far south of Highway 20. Lastly, if Lisa Lawler was serious maybe she’d show up at meetings. Look at the YouTube channel or read the minutes, she’s never shown up in person to a meeting. If you want a job, a visit to the job site first would be my suggestion.

Remember, some of the loudest people have the least to say. Take it from a seated County Treasurer and Hardin County taxpayer: When Hardin County voters vote, please vote for BJ Hoffman for County Supervisor.
