Have you no shame, Senator Grassley?

I’m referring to your recent video defending President Trump’s total pardon of the Jan. 6 rioters.

On the one hand, I wasn’t surprised that you would support President Trump’s pardons because you have been a staunch supporter of everything Trump has done, including his claims that the 2020 election was overrun with fraud.

On the other hand, weren’t you among the elected officials who had to flee for their lives when the rioters stormed the Capitol? Maybe it didn’t bother you that the people who tried to circumvent the democratic and Constitutional process of accepting the outcome were now free to roam our streets again. Or maybe you have been able to forget what an awful day that was. I can’t. I’ll never be able to erase those terrible images of rioters storming the Capitol any more than I will ever erase the image of the Twin Towers falling to the ground!

Like I said, I really wasn’t surprised that you would support Trump in this misguided executive order. But I WAS surprised that you would use President Biden’s preemptive pardons of members of the January 6th Commission to excuse what President Trump did.

Did any of those persons assault a police officer?

Did any of those persons threaten to kill the Vice President and Speaker of the House?

Did any of those persons defecate in the Capitol halls and ransack Congressional offices?

President Biden pardoned his son, Hunter. That’s something he probably shouldn’t have done. But I can understand why he did it. I’m a father, too. But again, did Hunter do anything as heinous as the rioters? Were Hunter’s crimes any worse than the ones that President Trump has been convicted of? Enough about that… Neither Donald Trump or Hunter Biden will have to serve any time for their crimes.

Now seriously, Sen. Grassley, why do you care what President Trump thinks about you? Are you afraid that he will launch a campaign to defeat you in any future primary election? Do you really think Iowa’s Republicans will turn against you?

One last thing: are you willing to accept any responsibility for the deaths of any other police officers or members of Congress or opponents of President Trump at the hands of Oath Keepers, Proud Boys or any other extremists seeking to destroy our country from within?

Shame on you, Senator Grassley.
