The last assignment

Today, Feb 18, our community helped a Marine on his final venture in life. We met at church to remember just who he was and how he lived life. He was a gnarly-headed youth from Marshall County who got the call from “Uncle Sam”. We need you, Larry Kerr, to be a part of the American experience of standing up to those who speak untruths and want to kill anyone who thinks differently. So he went to defend the American way of life. He took himself and what abilities he had and entered the Marine corp. Not everyone sees a responsibility to protect by war but Larry knew right from wrong and was willing to lend his effort for that cause. For his choice of fighting to be free, we met to thank him and get him to the place he wanted to enter, Heaven. Larry did more than just say he wanted to be with God. he took up the cause and helped in the Church with Bible study, worship and community activities. Before our regular Church services, we had time for coffee and conversation. Often, there was banter between some who have served in the military. Larry’s commander chose him to lead the group to keep cadence. At times he could be coaxed to call them to attention. It was so obvious of the commander’s choice. This man had his own built-in speaker system. If you were watching the Church walls, you would swear they moved in vibration to his cadence. If one wasn’t aware he was about to speak, you might spill your coffee. Larry was a simple, uncomplicated man who believed the Bible to be true and did what he could to tell others. He came home with a purple heart and memories of hate, how it destroys people. So we thank you Larry Kerr for being in Nam on our behalf. Rest well in your Spiritual home with those of your household.
