Bobcat matmen tilted twice in CIML triangular
JOHNSTON — The Marshalltown High School wrestling squad suffered a pair of CIML defeats on Thursday night, falling to Johnston and Waukee Northwest in a triangular.
Host Johnston defeated the Bobcats 48-28, while Class 3A No. 2 Waukee Northwest was a 65-8 winner over MHS.
Marshalltown was led by a pair of wrestlers who went 2-0 on the night, as Xayvion Anderson posted a pair of six-point victories at 132 pounds and seventh-ranked Gannon Williams got two pins at 220. The duo accounted for Marshalltown’s only two wins against Northwest.
Anderson won his opener against Johnston’s Aidan Honkomp by injury default, and he scored a 4-3 decision against Waukee Northwest’s Bain Jepsen.
Williams pinned Johnston’s Ian Dolan in 5 minutes, 4 seconds, and he flattened the Wolves’ Ben Lamar in just 1:39.
Against Johnston, Luke Hageman claimed an 11-3 major decision at 145 over Mason Cornwell. Jose Martinez (195) and Tristan King (285) both received forfeits from the Dragons.
Marshalltown is back on the mats Saturday at the Saydel Invitational.
