Henson and Greazel finish second in co-ed state golf
Marshalltown senior golfers Amber Henson and Grant Greazel ended their Bobcat careers with a runner-up finish in the Class 2A high school co-ed state golf meet Tuesday at American Legion Golf Course with an even-par round of 70. The duo finished one shot behind Gilbert’s Eden Lohrbach and Spencer Clatt. In seventh place was the other Bobcat duo of freshman Natalie Henson and sophomore Ryan Schmit with a 5-over 75.
Head coach Lucas Johnson was happy with the show Amber and Greazel put on and felt it was a nice bridge between their Marshalltown careers and college careers to come (Amber with Drake and Greazel at Indian Hills Community College).
“Grant Greazel and Amber Henson are used to putting themselves in positions to make birdies and they gave themselves an awful lot of chances on the day,” Johnson said. “For a pair of seniors like Amber and Grant who will continue their golf careers after playing for MHS, it was a fun way to end their time wearing the Bobcat red and blue.”
Schmit and Natalie will have to take on larger roles next season with the graduation of the Bobcats’ No. 1 golfer in boys’ and girls’ golf. Johnson said the scrambling they put on around the greens was impressive.
“Natalie Henson and Ryan Schmit didn’t hit as many greens, but they put on a short game clinic getting up and down for par saves 7 or 8 times over the course of their round,” Johnson said.
