Grundy Center won the district crown thanks to a fifth-score tiebreaker, while Weaver had a one-stroke cushion on the Spartans’ Judd Jirovsky for the meet medalist on Monday at Pleasant Valley Golf Course. Both sophomores finished below par, with Weaver topping the field with a 4-under round of 68 and Jirovsky shooting a 3-under 69.

West Marshall sophomore Hunter Polley earned his state meet debut by finishing third in the district with a round of 1-under 70.

Reigning 2A state champion Grundy Center got through to state after tying Dyersville Beckman for the low team total of 315. Jirovsky was joined in scoring by Sullivan Dirks, Jaxon Kiewiet and Preston Martens, each of whom shot an 82, and Tate Jirovsky’s 82 was the tiebreaker to determine the team champion.

Eli Wegmann’s 83 would have been good enough, too, as Dyersville Beckman’s fifth score was an 84.

Western Dubuque and PCM tied for third place with a 321, West Liberty finished in with a 328 and West Branch closed out the team competition with a 333.

Weaver’s medalist round featured five birdies and just one bogey as he carded a 35-33–68. Judd Jirovsky had six birdies and three bogeys in his 34-35–69, while Polley’s 37-33–70 featured four birdies, two bogeys, a double bogey and an eagle-3 on the par-5 11th hole.

The 2A state golf meet is May 20-21 at Coldwater Golf Links in Ames. Tee time is 10:30 a.m. for the first day and 9 a.m. on the second.
