INDIANOLA — The co-ed coupling of Natalie Henson and Ryan Schmit has been a lucrative one.

The Marshalltown High School golfers teamed up to earn their third medal in as many years, taking ninth at the IGHSAU/IHSAA Class 2A State Co-Ed Golf Tournament on Monday at Indianola Country Club.

Henson and Schmit shot a total score of 76 and won a cardback after tying for the ninth-best round of the tournament on Monday. The Bobcat duo won the state title in the 2023 co-ed state meet, and their first team effort got them a seventh-place medal in 2022.

“A fun day to end the season at the IGHSAU/IHSAA State Co-Ed,” MHS head golf coach Lucas Johnson posted on X.

The Cedar Rapids Washington pairing of Jane Petersen and Preston Haefner combined to shoot 71 to win Monday’s 2A meet, while Olivia Axmear and Parker Rodgers of Nevada were second with a 73. Third place went to Lauren Briggs and Tomas Rascon of Burlington at 74.

Marshalltown’s second pairing of juniors Gaby Estabrook and Eli Polley finished in a tie for 43rd place after shooting an 87. The same duo tied for 24th as sophomores last year.

South Tama’s top duo of Aubrey Dolezal and Kaden Kopsa came in tied for 60th with a 96.

CLASS 1A

CARROLL — West Marshall’s state medalists Allie Pfantz and Hunter Polley combined to shoot 80 on Monday at Carroll Country Club, earning all-state honors with a 10th-place finish in the IGHSAU/IHSAA Class 1A State Co-Ed Golf Tournament

Polley placed fourth in the 2A boys’ state golf tournament while Pfantz was eighth in the girls’ state meet. The duo combined to shoot the ninth-best round of the day with their 80, but the cardback left two teams in the medals and two more on the outside looking in.

BCLUW’s pairs finished within a stroke of each other. Lindsay Beeghly and Mason Martin tied for 23rd after shooting an 86, while Sydney Anderson and Bodie Butler tied for 25th with an 87.

West Marshall’s second tandem of Avery Stanley and James Decker teamed up to shoot a 104, finishing 55th overall.
