PREP FOOTBALL: Madrid rips Redhawks in playoff opener 41-6

MADRID — The North Tama football team fell to 10th-ranked Madrid in the opening round of the Class A state playoffs, losing 41-6 on Friday night at Randy Hinkel Field.

The Redhawks (4-5) were held to 112 yards of total offense and just 40 yards on the ground. Senior quarterback Kolt Knaack was 17-for-31 passing for 72 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. He was also the team’s leading rusher with 21 yards.

Josh Dostal made five catches for 25 yards and the Redhawks’ lone touchdown. Fellow senior Gavin Rausch had 10 catches for 33 yards, and Tyrus Luker had two grabs for 14 yards.

Rausch led the defense with seven tackles and Brayton Cibula made six stops. Mason Hosek and Braydon Stickles both had fumble recoveries to help the Redhawk defense.

Madrid (7-2) rushed for 307 of its 487 yards of offense, led by quarterback Preston Wicker’s 177 yards and two touchdowns. He also was 5-for-10 passing for 180 yards with two more scores.

BCLUW 39, West Fork 20

SHEFFIELD — BCLUW senior Carson Wayman had two rushing touchdowns, a receiving touchdown and a touchdown pass to help the Comets close out the season with a 39-20 win over West Fork on Friday night.

The Comets (2-7) scored 19 unanswered points in the second half to break free from a 20-all halftime tie.

BCLUW ran for 332 of its 424 yards of offense, with Wyatt Gould going for 122 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Emmitt Petermeier added 118 yards and a score on 14 carries as well. Aiden Frank had two receptions for 67 yards and a TD.

Wayman added 48 yards and two rushing touchdowns while going 3-for-4 passing for 77 yards and another score. He also caught a 15-yard touchdown pass.

Abram Leimbacher led the Comet defense with 7.5 tackles and a fumble recovery.

Nolan Shreckengost led West Fork (2-7) with five catches for 125 yards and two touchdowns.

East Marshall 28, Vinton-Shellsburg 21

LE GRAND — The East Marshall football team snapped a five-game losing skid by ending the season with a 28-21 victory over Vinton-Shellsburg on Friday night.

The Mustangs (4-5) outscored the Vikings 14-8 in the second half to finsh off the win.

Xavier Slifer led East Marshall with 13 carries for 71 yards, while Drew Wheater added 10 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Jake Farrington had six carries for 33 yards and a score, and he was 7-for-14 passing for 102 yards and a TD.

Cody Weaver made four receptions for 74 yards, while Slifer hauled in a 20-yard touchdown pass.

Wyatt Stalzer made 13 tackles to lead the Mustang defense, including three stops for loss. Slifer and Wheater both had 8.5 tackles, and Lucas Bowie made 7.5 stops as well as an interception. Weaver scored the team’s other touchdown with a 1-yard fumble return.

Isaiah Schneider rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown to lead Vinton-Shellsburg (0-9).
