Bobcat girls win two of three at Nevada Quad
NEVADA — The Marshalltown girls’ wrestling team went 2-1 in its season-opening competition at the Nevada Quad on Monday night.
The Bobcats beat Iowa Falls-Alden (60-21) and Humboldt (51-30) but fell to host Nevada (60-42).
Marshalltown won 12 of the 32 matches it wrestled on the night but benefitted from a full lineup against the smaller squads.
Ava Kusserow was the lone Bobcat wrestler to win three contested matches on the night, pinning all three of her 130-pound opponents in a combined time of 1 minute, 33 seconds.
Addyson Lovelace (145) and Genevieve Lantigua (155) both went 3-0 with two pins and a forfeit. Lovelace decked Humboldt’s Ally Wood in 1:30 and Nevada’s Mia Reichart in 33 seconds. Lantigua — Marshalltown’s first-ever state qualifier from a year ago — flattened Dayton Cleghorn of Humboldt in 42 seconds and Elizabeth Vaskova of Nevada in 1:09.
Three other Bobcats earned wins against Humboldt — Natalie Nickey (100) and Maelee Corona (105) got pins, and and Maddy Eckler (120) won by decision. Geneva Spitzli (140) and Madylin McDonald (145) got pins against Nevada.
