Anderson’s 100th win helps Bobcats beat Bulldogs and Saints

OTTUMWA — The Marshalltown boys’ wrestling team used an impressive seven-match pin streak to pound Ottumwa into submission, highlighted by senior Xayvion Anderson’s 100th career win, and the Bobcats swept a triangular on Thursday night at Evans Middle School.

Marshalltown opened the evening with a 57-20 triumph over the host Bulldogs. The Bobcats trailed 17-15 before rattling off seven-straight pinfalls to put the dual away with conviction.

Nicholas Wise (144 pounds), Kager Kramer (150), Carson Wright (157), seventh-ranked Anderson (165), 12th-ranked Dalton Zednichek (175), 12th-rated Johan Gomez (190) and Ignacio Macias (215) all scored first-period pins to put the Bobcats on top for good.

Freshmen Nicholas Million (106) and Ashton Wright (113) opened the dual with pins as well to put the Bobcats in front 12-0, but Ottumwa battled back to take a narrow lead before the decisive run.

Lucas Bantz (132) also scored a decision in the victory.

Marshalltown capped the triangular with a 46-29 triumph over Cedar Rapids Xavier. A back-and-forth battle saw the Bobcats rack up seven pins and a major decision to make off with the sweep.

Pins came from Million, Jose Corral Coronado (120), Colby Cross (138), Wise, Wright, Anderson, Gomez and Macias. Wise added a major decision at 144 that gave the Bobcats a 16-15 lead just before the midway point.

Bobcat girls fall to Ottumwa

The Marshalltown girls’ wrestling squad suffered a 52-30 loss to host Ottumwa on Thursday. The Bulldogs piled up seven pins and picked up one forfeit.

Marshalltown’s four match wins came by way of pins from Olivia Wise (190), Natalie Nickey (100), Nintee Tarr (145) and Genevieve Lantigua (155). Gabby Mateo Merida won by forfeit at 170.
