LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Nate Calmese had 16 points in Washington State’s 76-68 victory over Northern Iowa on Saturday night.
Dane Erikstrup scored 15 points with three 3-pointers for the Cougars (10-3).
Tytan Anderson led the Panthers (7-5), finishing with 17 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals. Leon Bond III added 17 points and seven rebounds.
No. 13 Cyclones go 2-1 at Collegiate Duals
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — No. 13 Iowa State (4-3) went 2-1 on Saturday at the Collegiate Duals, defeating Lock Haven (30-6) and No. 25 North Carolina (23-14) before falling to No. 5 Ohio State (29-10) in the final dual of the day.
Kysen Terukina went 2-0 at 125 pounds in his first action of the season while Paniro Johnson and Evan Bockman went 2-0 at 165 and 184, respectively. Cody Chittum went 3-0 on the day at 157 with an upset over Ohio State’s No. 7 Paddy Gallagher.
Osmany Diversent earned the first top-15 win of his career with a win over Lock Haven’s two-time All-American No. 13 Anthony Noto.
Iowa State is back in dual action after the New Year at West Virginia on Jan. 8.
Cowgirls fight past Cyclone women
STILLWATER, Okla. — The Iowa State women’s basketball team erased a 17-point deficit but couldn’t take the lead as Oklahoma State stopped the Cyclones 81-75 in Saturday’s Big 12 Conference opener at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Oklahoma State (11-1, 1-0) led by as many as 17 points, taking a 52-35 lead with 5:51 left in the third quarter, but Iowa State (9-5, 0-1) cut the deficit down to four, 61-57, going into the fourth.
The Cowgirls’ lead returned to nine before a 10-1 Cyclone run tied the game for the first time at 67-all. Oklahoma State scored eight of the next nine points and the margin never dwindled below four again.
Micah Gray got 24 points to pace the Cowgirls, who never trailed. Anna Gret Asi added 21 points and five assists, and Alexia Smith added 10 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Audi Crooks led the Cyclones with 28 points and 11 rebounds, while Addy Brown had 15 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Sydney Harris had 12 points on four 3-pointers, but the ISU couldn’t keep up down the stretch.
