Cyclones catch Cougars for conference win
AMES — The Iowa State women’s basketball team trailed by as many as 11 points in the opening quarter before overrunning BYU for an 82-59 win in Wednesday’s Big 12 Conference game at Hilton Coliseum.
The visiting Cougars (10-8, 1-6) led 15-4 midway through the opening period, but Iowa State (14-7, 5-3) closed to within six, 18-12, by the end of the quarter. The Cyclones outscored BYU 26-15 in the second quarter to take a five-point lead before burying the Cougars in the second half.
ISU tallied a 28-11 third-quarter advantage and breezed to the Big 12 win.
Audi Crooks scored a game-high 24 points and Addy Brown had 22 points, nine assists and seven rebounds to power ISU. The duo combined to shoot 15-for-22 from the free-throw line.
Sydney Harris added 11 points for the Cyclones, and Emily Ryan returnedd to action with seven points, six boards and four steals.
Delaney Gibb led BYU with 18 points and Kemery Congdon added 16.
The Cyclones host UCF on Saturday at 4 p.m.
