SPORTS SHORTS: Tiger men snap four-game losing skid
The Marshalltown Community College men’s basketball team snapped a four-game losing skid with Monday’s 96-50 romp over the Cornell College junior varsity.
The Tigers (8-11), who had won once in their last 11 games, led the visiting Rams by 30 points by halftime and cruised to the non-conference victory.
Ahmed Ibrahim led MCC with 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field. John Harrington had 14 points off the bench, Justice Small scored 13 points, and Isaiah Monroe chipped in 12 points in a reserve role.
Richard Udoagwa led the Tigers with 11 rebounds and Ibrahim had 10 boards as MCC commanded a 51-36 advantage on the glass. Antwan Bridgett handed out six assists, Small made three steals, and the Tigers breezed to their first win since Dec. 14, 2024.
Rayce Snyder scored a game-high 17 points off the bench to lead Cornell.
MCC returns to action Wednesday night with a conference game against Southeastern at 7 p.m. in West Burlington.
MCC women undone by turnovers at NIACC
MASON CITY — The Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball team couldn’t overcome its 29 turnovers in an 80-36 loss at NIACC on Saturday.
The host Trojans (15-4, 6-3) led 23-8 after the opening quarter and continued to pull away for the conference win. Reggi Spotts had 20 points, eight rebounds and four steals to lead NIACC. Tori Miller added 18 points, eight assists and six boards in the team’s third-straight win.
MCC (11-8, 4-5) suffered its fifth consecutive loss. Shenell Stewart scored a team-leading 14 points off the bench for the Tigers. Mia Sao-Martinez had 11 points, while Nuju Johnson led the way with nine rebounds.
