COLLEGE HOOPS: Oklahoma State knocks off No. 9 Iowa State 74-68
STILLWATER, Okla. — Abou Ousmane scored 25 points and Oklahoma State beat No. 9 Iowa State 74-68 on Tuesday night.
Arturo Dean had 14 points and Bryce Thompson added 11 for the Cowboys (14-14, 6-11 Big 12). A crowd that grew as the game progressed celebrated by storming the court. Oklahoma State had no previous wins over AP Top 25 teams this season under first-year coach Steve Lutz. The Cowboys lost their previous two games against ranked opponents Texas Tech and Kansas by a combined 70 points.
Josh Jefferson scored 17 points and Nate Heise added 13 for Iowa State (21-7, 11-6). The Cyclones were trying to bounce back from a loss at then-No. 5 Houston on Saturday, but instead fell to 5-5 on the road this season.
Illinois romps past Iowa to end three-game skid
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Tomislav Ivisic scored 15 of his 22 points in the first half and Illinois recovered from its beat down at the hands of Duke by beating Iowa 81-61 on Tuesday night.
Kylan Boswell and Will Riley each scored 15 points and Tre White had 14 for Illinois (18-11, 10-8 Big Ten), which shot 50.8% (32 for 63).
The Illini ended a three-game losing streak which occurred against teams that were all ranked (No. 11 Michigan State, No. 11 Wisconsin and No. 3 Duke.). The average margin of defeat was 26 points including the 110-67 loss against Duke in New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Brock Harding scored 16 points and Josh Dix 11 for Iowa (15-13, 6-11).
The Hawkeyes travel to Northwestern to face the Wildcats on Friday.
Cyclones nearly hit 100 at UCF
ORLANDO — The Iowa State women’s basketball team secured the season sweep of UCF with a 98-73 victory on Tuesday night in Big 12 Conference play.
It marked the 20th win of the season for the Cyclones (20-10, 11-6), who have won at least 20 games 18 times under head coach Bill Fennelly.
ISU shot 57 percent from the field in the win, going 32-for-56 from the field with an 8-of-20 effort from 3-point range. The Cyclones also shot 32 free throws in the win, making 26 of them (81.3 percent).
Audi Crooks piled up 29 points and eight rebounds, going 9-of-12 from the field and 11-of-13 at the line. Addy Brown added 20 points and nine boards, Emiliy Ryan had 16 points, and Sydney Harris had 12 points off the bench for the Cyclones.
Emely Rodriguez scored a team-leading 21 points off the bench for UCF (10-17, 3-14). Kaitlin Peterson added 20.
