IOWA CITY — On a night when the shots weren’t falling as frequently as they had been, the Iowa women’s basketball team found another way to win.

The Hawkeyes held Rutgers to its season-low in a 55-43 victory over the Scarlet Knights on Thursday night inside a sold-out Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Iowa (18-7, 8-6) claimed its sixth-straight win after enduring a five-game losing streak that saw a pair of low-scoring games for the Hawkeyes.

Iowa shot just 37 percent from the field but leaned on its defense instead, holding Rutgers (10-15, 2-12) to no more than 15 points in a quarter, including two single-digit periods.

Senior transfer Lucy Olsen led the Hawkeyes with 27 points, going 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Sydney Affolter notched her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Rutgers led by as many as eight points in the opening period, jumping out to a 10-2 lead. The Scarlet Knights led 14-10 after the first quarter but found themselves down 28-22 by halftime.

Iowa’s defense dominated the final period, holding Rutgers to just six points while forcing five turnovers.

JoJo Lacey led Rutgers with 11 points, but the Scarlet Knights shot just 30.6 percent from the field.

Iowa visits No. 9 Ohio State for a Monday matinee at 11 a.m.
