Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls basketball made its run to the top of the NICL West Division for the first time since 1997, and the Rebels might not be done yet.

G-R junior Kennedy Brant was named the NICL West’s Outstanding Player after helping the Rebels reach their first conference title in nearly 30 years, leading the league in scoring along the way.

Brant and fellow junior Elly Sieh both repeated as first-team all-NICL West selections, representing two of this year’s six unanimous picks on the seven-player squad. G-R’s Amber Gerringer was voted the West’s Coach of the Year.

AGWSR seniors Josie Kuper and Trevyn Smith were unanimous choices in a vote of the NICL West’s coaches, while Grundy Center sophomore forward Ava Mundt and South Hardin senior guard Alli Sheldahl rounded out the unanimous picks.

Grundy Center junior Karlee Lynch gained promotion from honorable mention a year ago to complete the all-conference first team.

Brant led the NICL West by averaging 16.2 points per game during conference play. She also finished third in rebounding (10.8), third in assists (3.0), second in blocks (1.9) and fifth in steals (2.2) as the Rebels won the division with a 7-1 record.

Sieh was the league’s fourth-leading scorer (13.1) while ranking first in assists (3.2), third in steals (3.6), third in blocks (1.4) and eighth in rebounding (5.2).

Grundy Center, which finished second in the league this season, won’t be going away anytime soon. The Spartans totaled five all-conference selections, and none of them are seniors.

Mundt averaged 14.1 points and 10.5 rebounds in league play, while Lynch put up 8.6 points, 3.8 steals and 3.0 assists per game. Lynch also led the West at 76.2 percent free-throw shooting (16-of-21).

Spartan junior guard Kali Aldrich and sophomore guard Maddy Hendershot both earned second-team honors for their first all-conference accolades, pitching in 6.5 and 5.8 points per game, respectively. Sophomore guard Caturella Brown was named honorable mention.

Brant and Sieh are two of Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s three all-conference honorees who will return next winter, joined by second-team honoree Brinn Scheider. A junior guard, Schneider chipped in 5.1 points per game during divisional play to earn her first all-conference honor.

G-R senior Lily Dripps put up 4.4 points per game in league play to repeat as a second-team selection, while senior guard Dylan Mathern added 3.8 points, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals per game to gain honorable mention.

East Marshall suffered its fifth-straight winless season of NICL West play, but the Mustangs got a boost from sophomore forward Ashtyn Wheater. Wheater averaged 6.0 points and 6.1 rebounds per game on her way to second-team all-conference honors. Senior guard Delaney Ryan gained honorable mention after chipping in 2.4 points and 2.1 boards per game in division play.
