Flames torch UNI, 76-57
CHICAGO — Four players scored in double figures as Illinois-Chicago stumped the Northern Iowa women’s basketball team, toppling the Panthers 76-57 in Thursday’s Missouri Valley Conference context.
Northern Iowa (15-15, 10-9) shot just 2-for-15 (13.3 percent) from 3-point range in the loss.
The host Flames (13-15, 10-9) didn’t shoot much better, going 5-for-17 from distance (29.4 percent), but won the rebounding and turnover battles.
Keimari Rimmer had a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead Illinois-Chicago, while Arin Freeman finished with 17 points off the bench, adding seven assists. Jaida McCloud also had a double-double of 12 points and 11 boards, and Ky Toney-Dempsey finished with 11 points for the Flames.
Ryley Goebel had 21 points to lead UNI, but she was the only Panther in double figures. Maya McDermott was held to nine points, while Elise Jaeger and Taryn Wharton pitched in with six points apiece.
The Panthers close the regular season on Sunday at Valparaiso.
