The leading rebounder and the leading shot blocker both were named to the All-Iowa Alliance Conference North Division girls’ basketball first team.
Marshalltown sophomore Frankie Long was both of them.
Long, a 6-foot-2 center, earned first-team all-conference honors for the second year in a row after racking up Alliance-leading statistics for the Bobcats this winter.
Long ranked 15th in the North Division in scoring average (5.8 points per game) while leading the league in rebounding (8.2) and blocked shots (3.9) during conference play. She is one of four players to repeat on the all-North first team, along with Karsyn Pankonen of Ames, LJ Maehl of Fort Dodge and Machaela Trask of Mason City.
Marshalltown junior Millie Heitmann earned second-team all-North Division selection this season, gaining a promotion from honorable mention a year ago. Heitmann, a 6-foot guard, averaged 4.9 points per game in divisional play while ranking sixth in the North in rebounds (6.0), fifth in assists (2.2) and third in blocked shots (1.4).

Two more Bobcats were honorable mention for the second year in a row: junior guard Kinsley Bowie and senior forward Ellie Hughes. Hughes finished fifth in the league in rebounding (6.4) to go with her 2.4 points per game. Bowie added 3.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game during league play.
Marshalltown finished the season 9-14 overall and 1-7 in Alliance North play. Bowie’s go-ahead layup to beat Fort Dodge 33-32 on January 28 marked the Bobcats’ first-ever win in North Division action, ending a 21-game losing streak since the founding of the Iowa Alliance Conference.
