Owen Freeman commits to Creighton

Owen Freeman

According to On3’s Joe Tipton, University of Iowa transfer Owen Freeman has committed to play for Creighton, giving Greg McDermott one of the nation’s top transfer additions.

Freeman entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on March 15 after the dismissal of Hawkeye head coach Fran McCaffrey, and he quickly became one of the most sought-after free agents on the market.

The Bluejays made him one of their top priorities, seeing him as a replacement for all-Big East center Ryan Kalkbrenner, who leaves Omaha as one of the most decorated players in program history.

The 6-foot-10 Freeman is coming off a campaign where he was one of the Big Ten’s best big men, averaging 16.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in just over 26 minutes per game. Freeman went down with a hand injury at the end of January and missed the rest of the season before opting to enter the portal.

That followed up a standout freshman year in 2023-24, where he was named the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Year after averaging 10.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks.

He signed with the Hawkeyes in the class of 2023, choosing Iowa over Michigan State, Indiana, Marquette, Illinois and a handful of other offers.

Freeman will have two years left to play.

Starting at $4.38/week.
