SPORTS SHORT: Gooding’s silver leads Bobcats at Central College
PELLA — Parker Gooding’s runner-up finish in the 3,200-meter run led the Marshalltown boys’ track and field team at the Central College Indoor Meet on Thursday.
Gooding scored the silver with a lifetime-best time of 10 minutes, 29.83 seconds, trailing only Gage Heyne of English Valleys in the eight-lap race.
Myles Goldman added a personal-best time of his own to finish ninth in the 1,600, timing in at 4:58.33.
Aiden Smitherman came away with eighth place in the long jump, clearing 19 feet, 11 3/4 inches, while the 4×400-meter relay team of Kieron Sharp, Carson Wright, Gooding and Carter Bell took eighth in 3:53.76.
The quartet of Smitherman, Evan Anderson, Ethan Gorsuch and Jayden Lavender teamed up for 10th place in the 4×200 with a combined time of 1:41.38.
In the open 200, Anderson (24.30) and fellow Bobcat LaMar Johnson (24.33) came in 12th and 13th, respectively, while Jaxson Hinkle took 12th in the shot put (41-1 1/2).
